Four measurement instruments at four levels
In the book: chapter 15 (table 4), the closing, and appendix A (the Behavior Tally)
What Issue-Focused Working delivers for teams, the book presents as a direction and not as a proven result. Four measurement instruments make that testable per team and organization: baseline, interim, and effect measurement. A certified partner uses them in the program; you can also explore them here yourself. Never measure safety alone; measure sharpness alongside it: does the team reach a decision, is an objection argued, is an action closed out?
- The Behavior Tally: how safe is it really? Count the behavior. In the session. Seven behaviors that carry interpersonal risk, tallied per phase, with sharpness alongside. Not who, only how often.Start the Behavior Tally
- The Team Scan: where does the team stand? Safety and sharpness.Across the program. The same seven safety statements as the team safety measurement, with the three sharpness questions alongside, at the start, midway, and at the end. Team picture via your team code.Start the Team Scan
- The Issue Tracker: what became of the issues? From the Current Shared Picture. Status per issue, actions with an owner, complaints from the Team Pulse that have decreased, and whether the agenda item returns.Start the Issue Tracker
- The Development Gauge: how does the team learn?Per Team Pitstop. Where the team stands in single-loop, double-loop, and triple-loop learning, and what the trainer-coach then does and refrains from.Start the Development Gauge
Interpretation and follow-up stay with the trainer-coach; a partner may also offer the instruments on their own website. These are first versions: they measure self-report and behavior, without a comparison group. Read the outcome as a direction for the conversation in the team, not as proof and not as an assessment of people, and always at team level.
